iLegal iphone app

Anyone who has an iPhone (I wish!) might be interested in having a look at the following website http://www.ilegalapps.com/index.html described as the "law in your pocket" this app has been developed by a law student and is available for downloading from the iTunes app store.
If I was a fee-earner I'd love to be able to access 5000 items of legislation whilst on the go, but from a law librarians perspective there have to be some concerns, like how accurate the information is, what the source is they're using for the information and the potential impact on the work law libraries do.
It will be interesting to see how well used this app is.

New pages on the BIALL How Do I? wiki

Since the BIALL wiki's inception, the PR committee and Wiki Writers continue to work on its content by adding new pages and updating others. Some recent pages added include those on a list of organisations which accept old or superseded material, guides on citing legal authorities, surveys on library management systems (and other IT applications) used in law firms, conducting Hansard research, sources of Northern Ireland Legislation, Cyprus legislation, and obtaining transcripts from Magistrates' Courts.
You can keep up to date with how the wiki is developing with an RSS feed of changes.
If you are interested in contributing to the wiki project, why not sign up to become a writer or consider joining the PR & Promotions Committee, to have involvement on the direction of the wiki?

Halsbury's Awards 2010 now open for nominations

The Halsbury’s Awards recognise outstanding service in law libraries and legal information services in Great Britain and Ireland.
Organised by the British and Irish Association of Law Libraries (BIALL) and LexisNexis, these are the only awards to recognise the value of dedicated teamwork within legal information services. There are awards for both the commercial and non-commercial sectors across England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales.
Winning an award brings kudos and the warm glow of the spotlight to your team – or the local team you choose to nominate. Build encouragement and motivation in the spirit of teamwork by placing a team in nomination now.
The awards, which are chosen by a panel made up of senior BIALL officers, LexisNexis representatives and the chair of BIALL’s Awards & Bursaries Committee, are presented at the BIALL Annual Conference on 10th June 2010. This year, the conference will be Brighton.

Wallace Breem Memorial Award 2010 now open for nominations

You are invited to nominate candidates for the Wallace Breem Memorial Award 2010.
The award is sponsored by The Inner Temple and BIALL and is designed to recognise especially good contributions to law librarianship, or provide financial assistance for special research or other projects at doctorate level or above. The broad terms of the Award allow the Award Committee to consider the widest range of publications, projects in-hand or proposed, assistance with travel or research costs, and so on.
The Award was inaugurated in 1990 in memory of Wallace Breem, former librarian of The Inner Temple Library and a founder member of BIALL who, at various times, held the offices of Secretary, Treasurer, Chairman, Vice-President and President.
